IMG_6014-800x600September 29th 2011: MyMachine is introduced to Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne. Frank De Winne was the first non-American Chief Commander of the International Space Station (ISS) and was also via sattelite for one song the fifth member of U2 on their latest world tour (U2 360).  Frank showed immediate interest in the “Jump-to-the-moon-machine” and praised the combination of creativity, imagination, engineering and technical skills of the machines.

frank_winne_400x400We asked Frank De Winne to draw his dream machine: a “worldwide-and-in-space-clear-water-machine”. Frank explained his dream machine in accordance with him being ambassador for UNICEF. “In space we need clear water and good hygiene, because we live in a very small environment. So the link between the need for clear water on board of the ISS and clear water in Africa is quickly made.” So he challenged all Howest University of Applied Sciences students, children and pupils to invent solutions for this huge challenge.
