MyMachine Flanders & Brussels 2018 Exhibition opening event (Belgium)

Tuesday June 25th. 11AM. At Technopolis in Mechelen, Belgium. 1000 visitors anxious to go inside and start discovering the results of one full school year’s work of co-created creativity by 650 students from all educational levels and 26 different schools throughout the country.

This year, the MyMachine Belgium 2018 Exhibition Opening Event was co-hosted by Agoria, the Technology Industry Association in Belgium.

As a result, next to having all the elaborated dream machines, MyMachine Belgium also organised a conference on The Future of Learning. Some 250 business leaders from around the country joined the event.

The keynote was delivered by Tom Vander Ark, leading voice of education in the USA. Tom is an advocate for innovations in learning. As CEO of Getting Smart, he advises school districts and networks, education foundations and funders and impact organizations on the path forward. A prolific writer and speaker, Tom is author of Getting Smart, Smart Cities That Work for Everyone, Smart Parents and Better Together and has published thousands of articles, co-authored more than 50 books and white papers. He writes regularly on GettingSmart.com, LinkedIn, and contributes to Education Week and Forbes.

Previously he served as the first Executive Director of Education for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Tom served as a public school superintendent in Washington State and has extensive private sector experience. Tom co-founded the first education venture fund, Learn Capital. Tom is Board Chair of Charter Board Partners, Director for 4.0 Schools, Digital Learning Institute, eduInnovation and Imagination Foundation and Advisor for One Stone, Teton Science Schools and Whittle School & Studios.

3 other inspiring examples of innovative approaches in elementary and secondary schools followed the keynote. MyMachine alumnus Lisa Vroman was honoured to close the event with her testimonial of how she looks back at her MyMachine experience and how it lingers on in her current professional product design job.
